It’s easy to get overwhelmed during the truck buying process, especially if you are a first-time truck owner. Buying your first truck doesn’t have to be so stressful. We’ve broken down a few key factors to consider before you kick off this exciting time to keep you as cool as a cucumber from start to finish.
Remember Your Needs
Determining whether you’ll be needing a light-duty, medium-duty or heavy-duty truck will be entirely reliant on what you need to haul or tow with your new truck. Do your research on the front-end so that by the time you are exploring options, the process of narrowing them down will be easier on you. With advancements in technology and refined development, even a light-duty truck features impressive capabilities. Be sure to communicate your needs clearly to your Sunset Trucks partner who will be able to point you in the right direction.
Diesel or Gas?
While heavy-duty truck manufacturers usually offer a diesel engine option, not all light-duty truck manufacturers do. While gas engines are highly lauded for their better fuel efficiency, diesel trucks are known to be the top choice for being beasts at towing. At lower speeds, a diesel truck will have no problem pulling extremely heavy loads.
Size: Bed & Cab
The size of the cab in your truck will impact the length of the bed as well. Start with the cab size and know that most trucks come in three cab size options, regular, crew-cab and XL or mega-cab. Oftentimes, the largest option is relatively limited. If you do select a cab of a larger size, know this will shorten the length of your truck bed. If you’re planning to cart the family around in the truck, you’ll likely want to prioritize cab size. If your intention is to use this as a work truck to haul equipment around, the length of your bed with probably take precedence!
Between choosing a trim level and considering other customization and package options, you’ll still have a few more decisions to make but keeping these few key considerations in mind will get you well on your way to finding the rig of your dreams.
